What it means

Matter certification requires a CSA membership, test event participation and certification by an authorised test provider. Products are certified by device type, and the ecosystem still controls which features are exposed in each app.

Applies to

  • Lights, plugs, sensors, locks and bridges
  • Hubs and border routers that commission Matter devices
  • Brands that want multi-ecosystem support

What it does not cover

  • Every feature of the manufacturer app
  • Cloud-to-cloud integrations that are not part of Matter
  • Radio approval

Verification checklist

  • Register as a CSA member and obtain a vendor ID
  • Implement the correct device type and clusters
  • Pass the test harness and complete certification
  • Submit the product to the ecosystem programmes you support
