Data sources and verification
What is checked, what is not, and how to get something corrected. We publish this because a directory is only worth reading if you can tell verified facts from placeholders.
Three states of information
| State | What it means | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | Checked against a manufacturer, standards body or store listing. The source link is shown on the record. | Brand official sites, app store links, protocol and standards pages |
| Editorial | Our own summary or scoring. Clearly opinion, with the method stated. Not a measurement. | Comparison scores, brand coverage index, AI signal estimates |
| Placeholder | Sample data for layout review. Not real. Must not be relied on. | Amazon ASINs, rankings, prices, ratings; some app store links are search links rather than direct listings |
What we do not do
- We do not invent a company relationship. An app is attributed to a parent company only when the app is that vendor's own first-party app or the relationship is documented.
- We do not present an estimate as a measurement. AI signals and scores are labelled as estimates with stated inputs.
- We do not publish a product record without a source link. Records that cannot be sourced are removed rather than padded out.
- We do not rank companies by financial value. The brand coverage index describes what a catalogue covers, not what a company is worth.
Corrections
If a record is wrong - a misattributed brand, a dead link, an incorrect specification, a product that no longer exists - send it to us with the source that shows the correct value.
Brands and manufacturers: you may request a correction, a clarification or the removal of a record. We will respond and, where the request is supported, update the record and note the change.
Known gaps at this stage
- Marketplace data (ASIN, rank, price, rating) is preview data until a licensed source is connected.
- Some app store links point at an official store search rather than a direct package listing.
- Comparison scores and the brand coverage index are editorial estimates, not benchmarks.
- Legal pages are drafts pending jurisdiction-specific review.
