What it means

RoHS compliance is shown through a technical file, supplier declarations and material test reports rather than a product mark. Many other markets have adopted similar restrictions, sometimes with different substance lists.

Applies to

  • Electrical and electronic equipment in the ten RoHS categories
  • Components and sub-assemblies placed on the market
  • Cables, power supplies and accessories sold with the device

What it does not cover

  • Batteries, which have their own regulation
  • Packaging, which is covered by packaging rules
  • Product safety or radio performance

Verification checklist

  • Collect supplier declarations and material test reports
  • Assess homogeneous material levels rather than the finished product
  • Keep evidence for every part number in the bill of materials
  • Refresh evidence when a supplier changes a material or process
